What to expect from a visit?
It is important to me that we work together to achieve your goals. I am here to support your infant feeding goals, whatever they may be. I will provide inclusive and nonjudgmental support to you and your family and help support your individual needs.
Our visit will start with reviewing medical history and gathering important information. I will have you feed your baby as you normally would. Every family is unique and have their own way of doing things. It is important that I see what you and your baby can do together. We will discuss what issues you see need attention and I will share some feedback on how to address these topics. In my experience, most issues are easy to fix with some simple technical adjustments.
When appropriate I will assess your breasts and your nipples. We will evaluate what stage of milk of production you are in. We will discuss many things related to milk supply and comfort during feeding.
I will perform an assessment on your baby, I may check in the mouth with gloved fingers to look for an oral tie or restriction. I will look at and evaluate the head, neck, mouth, and other structures for abnormalities that can affect infant feeding.
We will work together to review some possible solutions, create a plan of action, implement some ideas for change, and follow up over the next few days to evaluate the situation via text or email.
How to prepare for a visit?
Try to schedule a visit time when you expect your baby to be hungry in
about 30 minutes.
If your baby is hungry before I arrive, provide them a smaller feed than
normal so they will still be hungry during the visit
Relax, act as you normally would
Have people present who support your goals
Identify a comfortable place to feed and have it set up
Have another adult available to tend to older children if they need
something
Secure pets - even when friendly they may be suspicious with a
stranger and a new baby in the house
Do NOT clean for me, I visit the homes of new parents every day
Please have a sink available with soap and disposable towels for me to
wash my hands
Clear space on a flat surface (table, countertop ) for my infant scale
Make a list of questions to discuss, so you don’t forget any
If pumping, have your pump and its parts clean and ready for use
